Opmerkingen Gertrude (Gert) Bos.
Gertrude (Bos) tenCate, who had been a life-long resident of the Ogilvie community, died Sunday, July 7th, 2013 at the Scandia House of Mora.
Gertrude tenCate, daughter of Gerrit and Johanna Bos was born in Harderwijk, Netherlands on June 21, 1925 and in January of 1927 immigrated to the United States with her parents and younger sister. They lived in Iowa and South Dakota before settling in Minnesota.
She was united in marriage to Hendrik tenCate on June 21, 1946 at her family’s farm in Ogilivie. Gertrude and Hendrik raised four children and were self-employed as dairy farmers until their retirement. They spent time between Minnesota and Idaho helping on the dairy and attending horse-shoe tournaments as well as time traveling out west.
Gertrude was a devoted housewife and mother and enjoyed all the aspects that centered around her family. She was an exceptional seamstress making most of her family’s clothing (noted for her flannel shirts and quilts). She enjoyed the bounties of her garden by harvesting, canning, and preserving. There was always plenty of food to see the family through the seasons. Her flower gardens were amazing and were appreciated not only by family and friends, but by the many birds and butterflies she so loved. Gertrude was an active member of the Ogilvie Christian Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school, bible school, and catechism. She was also a 4-H leader, member of the Women’s Auxillary, volunteered with the March of Dimes, and was an election judge for the City of Ogilvie. Gertrude held various jobs during the years but her emphasis was always her family and working on their dairy farm.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Hendrik, her parents, infant brother, William, brothers Alfred and William Bos, and son-in-law, Daniel Clayton.
Gertrude is survived by her four children: Joan (Vance) Ericson of Ogilvie, Faye Cayton of Peoria, Arizona, Rick (Patty) tenCate of Ogilvie, and Marie (Bob) Kastenbauer of Mora; 14 grandchildren: Matt (Lori) Cayton, Ronda (Dan) Simon, Tim Cayton, Dana Cayton, Kim (Matt) Pitz, Lucas tenCate, Brian Ericson, Phillip (Emily) Carlson, Stephanie tenCate, Kelsie Carlson, Katie (Chris) Uttke, Tim (Amy) Kastenbauer, Dana tenCate, and Lane (Mark) Schafer; 15 great grandchildren: Zachary, Kaylee, Devin, Skyler, Gracie, Chloe, James, Molly, Corban, Jadon, Asher, MaKayla, Cody, Beau, and Cole: Siblings: Johann VanGunst of Minneapolis, Mina (Harry) Robyn of Worthington, Andrea (Marty) DeBoer of Mora, Margaret Bos of Aitkin, Mary Douglas of Minnetonka, Ruth (Jerry) Fenus of Ogilvie, Gerrit (Sylvia) Bos of Worthington, John (Elsie) Bos of Chino, California, Hank (Arlene) Bos of Mora, and David (Diann) Bos of Ogilvie; Sisters-in-law: Carol Bos of Ogilvie, and Beth Dalzen of Rochester.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Lewis Lake Covenant Church with Rev. Robert DeYoung officiating. Music was provided by Phyllis Kruell, David Bos, and Margaret Bos. Casket bearers were Gertrude’s grandchildren. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery in Ogilvie
