Leatha Rae Griffin was born to Robert and Florence(Thomas) TenCate on June 22,1950 in Pipestone, Minnesota. She moved around frequently with her family as she was growing up. Upon completion of her education, she moved to Michigan where she worked at Job Corps. Later she moved back to Pipestone where she met her future husband, Doug Griffin. They were united in marriage on August 23, 1978 in Sioux Falls,South Dakota. Following their marriage, they lived in Pipestone for a short time and then moved to Edgerton, Minnesota. They were blessed with three children. On August 11, 2010 she was admitted to Pipestone County Medical Center. She died of Cancer there on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at the age of 60 years, one month, 23 days.
Leatha was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Edgerton. She enjoyed gardening, canning, motorcycling, and collecting salt and pepper shakers, and was an avid reader. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and dog "Paco".
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 32 years, Doug, two daughters; Candy (Mark) Englkes and Tara(Andy)Wiekeraad, six grandchildren; Tyler, Jackie, Ethan, Karstin, Kaylee, and Cody; two brothers; Robert (Bonnie)TenCate, Randall (Jean)TenCate, four sisters; Rhonda (Bob) Spencer, Aurora (David) Ankrum, Jana (Len) Roschen,and Renata Norgaard. Also, many other nieces, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son Scott, parents, brother-in-law David Norgaard, and niece Bobby Jo TenCate.

MayBelle I. Ten Cate, 96, Edgerton, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 at Edgebrook Care Center.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 14 at First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton.
Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Edgerton.
MayBelle Inez Ten Cate was born to Albert and Catherina (Juffer) Van Stelten on Nov. 6, 1907 on a farm near Ruthton. In 1921, the family moved to Edgerton and MayBelle attended the Edgerton Christian School. She graduated from Edgerton Public High School. She sewed professionally at the age of fourteen.
She married Herman Ten Cate on June 2, 1930 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After they were married, they lived in Edgerton. MayBelle lived in their home for nearly 71 years until she became a resident of the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton in April of 2001. Herman preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1965.
She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton.
She is survived by her daughter, Marylou Hughes, Fort Pierce, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; her three sisters, Gertie Stillwell, Alice Robinson and Josephine Hankins; and four brothers, Harry, Albert, James and Arthur Van Stelten.

LOCAL ATTORNEY SUCCUMBS AT 78 AFTER LONG CAREER.
Daniel Ten Cate, 78, prominent local attorney, died Friday morning in Holland Hospital following a stroke a week ago. He was born September 28, 1877 in Holland, son of John Ten Cate, and Hendrika Diekema Ten Cate. He attended public schools, Hope College and was graduated from University of Michigan law school in 1902.
Upon his graduation from law school, he became associated with his uncles, Gerrit J. Diekema and George E. Kollen, in the practice of law ultimately forming a partnership under the name of Diekema, Kollen, and Ten Cate.
In 1929 the late Judge Orien S. Cross became a member of the firm upon the appointment of Gerrit J. Diekema as Minister to the Netherlands. Ten Cate's son, Vernon D. , also became a partner in the firm known as Diekema, Cross, and Ten Cate. When Cross retired, Daniel Ten Cate and Vernon Ten Cate continued under the firm name of Ten Cate and Ten Cate.
Ten Cate remained a widower since the death in 1927 of his wife, the former Veronica K. Kleaver.
After a first stroke in 1951, Ten Cate retired from active practice of law, continuing his directorships in the Home Furnace Co, of which he was president for many years; in the DuPree Co, of which he was vice president at the time of his death, andd as director of the Community State Bank of Grandville.
During his professional and business career, Ten Cate was a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Ottawa-Allegan Bar Association. He belonged to the Emeritius Club of the University of Michigan and the Alumni Association. He served as director of Peoples State Bank, First National Bank, and the Ottawa Savings and Loan Association.
He was a member of Hope Church, the Century Club and the Knights of Pythias.
He is survived by his son, Vernon D. and his three children, Joan E, Daniel D, and John V.; and his daughter, Mrs. Myra R. Van Leeuwen and her children, Bruce G. and Nancy. His only survivng aunt, Martha Diekema Kollen, resides in Ann Arbor.

DEATH COMES TO A GREATLY LOVED WOMAN MONDAY.
Mrs. Daniel Ten Cate Passes Away After a Long Illness.
Was Very Prominent in the Social, Church and School Life of the City.
After a critical illness of thirteen weeks, Mrs. Daniel Ten Cate died Monday evening at 8:45 at her home at 162 West 14th Street. Thirteen weeks ago, Mrs. Ten Cate suffered a stroke at a social gathering at her own home, while she was serving her guests, and since then she has been confined to her bed, in a very serious condition. On Monday she suffered another serious stroke and she was unconscious all day Monday.
Mrs. Ten Cate was one of the best known and most loved women in the city. She had a kind of genious for friendship and all who knew her were her friends. Her serious illness was matter of concern to a very great number and her death is felt as a great personal loss by them all.
She was born in Grand Rapids forty nine years ago, her maiden name being Verona Kleaver. She graduated from the public schools and high school of that city. About 24 years ago she became the wife of Mr. Ten Cate and she has made her home here ever since. She is survived by her husband, two children, Vernon and Myra, two sisters, Mrs. Nick Sprietsma and Miss Elina Kleaver of Holland, and two brothers, Peter Kleaver of Grand Rapids and Frank Kleaver of Milwaukee.
Mrs. Ten Cate took a prominent part in the social life and church and school life of the city. She was a member of Hope Church, of its women's aid and missionary societies, of the Women's Literary Club, and of a cariety of other literary and social organizations. Her part in the social life of Holland was unusually active.
The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the home, Rev. T. W. Davidson, D. D, pastor of Hope Church officiating. Interment will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

DEATH COMES TO A GREATLY LOVED WOMAN MONDAY.
Mrs. Daniel Ten Cate Passes Away After a Long Illness.
Was Very Prominent in the Social, Church and School Life of the City.
After a critical illness of thirteen weeks, Mrs. Daniel Ten Cate died Monday evening at 8:45 at her home at 162 West 14th Street. Thirteen weeks ago, Mrs. Ten Cate suffered a stroke at a social gathering at her own home, while she was serving her guests, and since then she has been confined to her bed, in a very serious condition. On Monday she suffered another serious stroke and she was unconscious all day Monday.
Mrs. Ten Cate was one of the best known and most loved women in the city. She had a kind of genious for friendship and all who knew her were her friends. Her serious illness was matter of concern to a very great number and her death is felt as a great personal loss by them all.
She was born in Grand Rapids forty nine years ago, her maiden name being Verona Kleaver. She graduated from the public schools and high school of that city. About 24 years ago she became the wife of Mr. Ten Cate and she has made her home here ever since. LOCAL ATTORNEY SUCCUMBS AT 78 AFTER LONG CAREER.
Daniel Ten Cate, 78, prominent local attorney, died Friday morning in Holland Hospital following a stroke a week ago. He was born September 28, 1877 in Holland, son of John Ten Cate, and Hendrika Diekema Ten Cate. He attended public schools, Hope College and was graduated from University of Michigan law school in 1902.
Upon his graduation from law school, he became associated with his uncles, Gerrit J. Diekema and George E. Kollen, in the practice of law ultimately forming a partnership under the name of Diekema, Kollen, and Ten Cate.
In 1929 the late Judge Orien S. Cross became a member of the firm upon the appointment of Gerrit J. Diekema as Minister to the Netherlands. Ten Cate's son, Vernon D. , also became a partner in the firm known as Diekema, Cross, and Ten Cate. When Cross retired, Daniel Ten Cate and Vernon Ten Cate continued under the firm name of Ten Cate and Ten Cate.
Ten Cate remained a widower since the death in 1927 of his wife, the former Veronica K. Kleaver.
After a first stroke in 1951, Ten Cate retired from active practice of law, continuing his directorships in the Home Furnace Co, of which he was president for many years; in the DuPree Co, of which he was vice president at the time of his death, andd as director of the Community State Bank of Grandville.
During his professional and business career, Ten Cate was a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Ottawa-Allegan Bar Association. He belonged to the Emeritius Club of the University of Michigan and the Alumni Association. He served as director of Peoples State Bank, First National Bank, and the Ottawa Savings and Loan Association.
He was a member of Hope Church, the Century Club and the Knights of Pythias.
He is survived by his son, Vernon D. and his three children, Joan E, Daniel D, and John V.; and his daughter, Mrs. Myra R. Van Leeuwen and her children, Bruce G. and Nancy. His only survivng aunt, Martha Diekema Kollen, resides in Ann Arbor.
